Granularity (lit. granularity) is a term used in the design of data warehouses, it indicates to which detailed data of the entities is present. A lower granularity (coarse graininess) indicates that less details are stored at a certain level. With today’s cheap storage space, it is preferable to record data at the lowest level of detail. The smallest possible granularity yields a lot of data. One has to ask oneself: are we ever going to use that data?
